Brandon High Wrestlers Clinch 2011 Class 3A, Region 2 Title; Full Roster Qualifies for States

The Eagles scored 318 points to clinch the Class 3A-2 Regional Title at Kissimmee Osceola High School on Feb. 12. Nine wrestlers placed first and wrestlers in all 14 weight classes advance to state competition.

Brandon High School's domination of wrestling continues with another regional title, this one earned Feb. 12 in Kissimmee. That makes 31 regional titles overall for Brandon, and 30 for Head Coach Russ Cozart, who won his first title in 1981 and has lost only one since — in 1989.

Does it ever got old for Cozart?

"Not yet," he said.

Next up for the Eagles is its quest for an 11th consecutive state title, and 20th state crown overall.

At the Class 3A-2 championship in Kissimmee, Brandon scored 318 points, easily overcoming the second-place team, Kissimmee-Osceola, which scored 172.5 points.

Nine of the 14 weight classes were won by Brandon wrestlers and in the remaining five weight classes, Brandon wrestlers placed second, third or fourth. That means for the second year in a row Brandon wrestlers in all weight classes will represent their school at state competition.

This year's Brandon wrestlers: Devan Berrian (103 pounds, first place), James Flint (112 pounds, first place), Victor Fugate (119 pounds, first place), Kevin Norstrem (125 pounds, first place), Rossi Bruno (130 pounds, third place), Tyler Liberatore (135 pounds, first place), Brice Jones (140 pounds, third place), Travis Berridge (145 pounds, second place), Clark Glass (152 pounds, first place), Wally Figaro (160 pounds, first place), Kyle Koziel (171 pounds, first place), Mike Ettore (189 pounds, first place), Lorenzo Martinez (215 pounds, fourth place) and Joe Dudley (275 pounds, third place).
