St. Jude Children's Research Hospital will benefit from "Washing for a Cause" in June, kicking off 9 a.m. every Saturday at Hancock Tire & Auto Service in Riverview.
The month-long fundraiser will run through 1p.m. at the family owned business at 10922 Bloomingdale Ave., just west of Providence Road and the Winthrop community.
The Hancock family opened the Bloomingdale Avenue business in 2008. The family also has been in business since 1976 at Riverview Tire & Auto on U.S. Highway 301.
The St. Jude car-wash fundraiser is near-and-dear to the heart if employee Lynn Sanders, who said at the Bloomingdale location June 5 that she was a nurse for five years at Wimauma Family Health Center.
"I've always listened to the St. Jude marathon on 99.5 every year and I thought it was a very good cause," she said.
As a nurse, she added, she worked eight years ago with Chloe, a 7-year-old keukemia patient at the time who went into remisdion,
"I was the only nurse who could take care if her," Sanders said. "Anything I did to her I had to do to her doll."
Christine Hancock held with Sanders the banner that will be hung at the Saturday car wash.
"My mom's a doctor, so I've always grown up around helping with health care and research for health care," Hancock said.
"I've had family members with cancer in the past," she added, "so any research to help families in need, I'm behind it."
