BRANDON, FL — An suspect who is accused of pointing a gun at her ex-boyfriend as he got out of the shower Monday was injured when a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputy later shot her in a Brandon parking lot, Sheriff Chad Chronister said at a news conference.

"Our victim had just finished taking a shower at his ex-girlfriend's apartment here at the Cypress Trace apartments in the 700 block of Kings Avenue," Chronister said. "When he exited the shower, he was met with an extremely irate, almost irrational ex-girlfriend who had just looked at his phone..."

Chronister said the suspect, Terrell Green, 39, pointed her firearm at him after he finished dressing.

Deputies accused Green of then telling the victim she was going to kill him. He ran throughout the apartment complex following that statement.

According to Chronister, Terrell is accused of chasing her ex-boyfriend with a gun in her hand.

Scaling a 7-foot rod-iron picket fence is what saved the victim's life, deputies said.

The victim ran across the street to Heaven Sent Child Care and called 9-1-1. As the victim spoke to police dispatch, he breathed heavily and told the dispatcher he had just jumped a fence to get to safety.

"She (Terrell) continued that hunt, she continued that pursuit. She got in her car and began looking for him trying to find him. Even when she saw him talking to the deputies across the street in the parking lot of this nursery behind us," Chronister said.

Green drove across the street where a male deputy and a female deputy were speaking to the victim about the incident.

"The male deputy was closer to the car, and approached the car to try to get her to stop. She didn't stop the car," Chronister said. "Fortunate for us, she was almost at a slow roll and he (deputy) was able to take an invasive move to get out and head toward the driver's side of the car as she was driving by."

The deputy then noticed a gun in Green's car, according to Chronister.

"He yells, 'Gun, gun, gun,'" Chronister said. "Our female deputy who is doing her job as the cover officer on the passenger's side was at the same time telling our victim to get behind the car, the owner of the daycare to get out of harm's way and at this sense of urgency, she was there today in this parking lot to finish the job that she had started. Our female deputy was forced to take that urgent action, she was forced to discharge her service weapon."

Green was arrested and taken to a hospital with upper torso non-life-threatening injuries.

Green faces false imprisonment and aggravated assault with firearm charges, Chronister said.

No one at the daycare facility experienced injuries, deputies said.

The deputies involved were Deputy Michael Castelli and Deputy Kristina Gautier, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Both have been employed with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office since 2019. Deputy Gautier is being placed on paid administrative leave as the investigation into this incident continues. In accordance with HCSO policy, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
