Erika Chinander of Dover has been accepted as a violinist at the prestigious Credo Chamber Festival, to be held at Oberlin Conservatory in Oberlin, Ohio, this summer.
Credo students come from 40 states and five continents, and are chosen in a rigorous audition process. The talented young musicians of Credo represent the brightest hopes for the future of classical music performance.
While at Credo, the students will be involved in a rigorous curriculum taught by such musical leaders as the Dean of the Juilliard School, the head of the Oberlin Conservatory string department, and top players in The Cleveland Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony. Credo concludes with a finale concert at the world-renowned Severance Hall in downtown Cleveland on July 20.

Music won’t be the only item on the agenda for these young classical musicians. As part of the program, participating students will also spend time exploring their faith and serving others in local nonprofits.
Peter Slowik, artistic director of Credo, explains: “At Credo, high-level music education is approached holistically; a demanding curriculum is given healthy context through personal mentorship and an emphasis on community service. Especially during teenage years when students are exploring their identity, many times self-centeredness can take root. Through service projects, Credo encourages students to recognize their responsibility towards others, ultimately helping young musicians become leaders in their disciplines and also leaders in their communities.”

The service element acts as a catalyst for young students to develop a habit of giving back to their communities. Credo's conscious redefinition of "success" produces amazing results in its students: significant musical growth and a new understanding of the joys and responsibilities of artistic excellence.
