The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County announced the award of six Leading grants to faith-based and grassroots, community-based organizations.
The Request for Proposal process was competitive and, out of nineteen (19) applicants, six (6) are being recommended for funding in the total amount of $268,921.

· Emergency Care Help Organization (ECHO)
· Family Literacy Academy of Tampa Bay
· Greater Palm River Point Community Development Corp.
· Parents and Children Advance Together (PCAT) Literacy Ministries
· Pregnancy Care Center of Plant City
· Wholesome Community Ministries, Inc.
María Negrón, program director of the Children’s Board, commented, “We met the goal of this RFP, as the recommended candidates will be providing diverse services in key neighborhoods throughout Hillsborough County. This includes innovative service delivery models such as Emergency Care Help Organization’s dynamic health literacy program for pregnant women and parents of small children to better understand the role of good nutrition and food choices.”
The contracts are effective Oct. 1, pending board approval of the overall agency budget at the regular board meeting Sept. 26.
