Bring a covered dish or dessert to the 34th annual gathering of the Greater Brandon Old Timers Association. The association meets once a year only as an opportunity for people with deep roots in the community to gather for lunch and catch up. "Old" refers to the many years a family has lived in Brandon generationally so expect to see lots of ages, from newborn to octogenarian and beyond.
The annual event for years had been known as the "Greater Brandon Old Timers Association Luncheon," but that name was changed to the "Greater Brandon Area Community Picnic" in 2009.
"One thing, though has not changed," organizers note. "The Old Timers came to the first meeting bearing baskets of homemade foods and home baked desserts. The bountiful buffet became another tradition, one that continues to remind members of days gone by, when good friends gathered to break bread together, share memories and keep in touch with one another."
