Firefighter Crawls Beneath Truck To Save Kitten From Calamity
The resident had unknowingly driven around with a 2-month-old kitten lodged between his pickup truck's exterior floor and the gas tank.
BRANDON, FL — A 2-month-old kitten nearly lost one of its nine lives but got a reprieve thanks to the efforts of a Hillsborough County firefighter.
On Saturday morning, the crew of Engine 18 in Seffner was flagged down by a man in the parking lot of Publix. The man told the firefighters that he was getting out of his pickup truck when he heard the cries of a kitten.
He was surprised to discover he'd been driving around with a kitten lodged between the pickup truck's exterior floor and the gas tank.

FIrefighter Elaine Owens promptly crawled under the truck and managed to extricate the kitten, which was no worse for wear after its close call.
A bystander offered to take the kitten home, clean it up and give it a home.

Owens, a lifelong Brandon resident and graduate of Bloomingdale High School, has been a Hillsborough County firefighter since October 2019.
