Fourth Teen Charged In 2022 Brandon Murder: Hillsborough Sheriff

A 16-year-old was robbed and fatally shot by four other teenagers during a 2022 drug deal in Brandon, the Hillsborough County sheriff said.

BRANDON, FL — The fourth and final suspect, a 16-year-old boy, has been charged in the 2022 murder of another teenager in Brandon, according to a Hillsborough County news release.

Tony Shepard Jr., 16, was arrested for his role in the Nov. 23, 2022, homicide of the 16-year-old victim during a drug deal on Lake Chapman Drive.

Shepard was identified as the driver in the incident, the sheriff’s office said.

He was charged with being a minor in possession of a firearm, grand theft firearm, carrying a concealed firearm, murder in the first degree while engaged in robbery, and armed possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, manufacture, or deliver within 1,000 feet of a church.

With Shepard’s arrest, all suspects — including Jamerius Bennefield, 17; Jyi'Keem Henry, 16; and Demitrus Bailey, 17 — have been arrested in connection with this homicide.

Detectives obtained a court-authorized search warrant of Shepard’s home on June 4. While searching the home, they found illegal drugs, firearms and money.

“This investigation highlights the relentless efforts of our detectives to ensure that victims and their families receive justice, no matter how long it takes," Sheriff Chad Chronister said. “Our thoughts are with the victim's loved ones. It is our hope this helps bring them closure, knowing that justice will be served."
