Victim Run Over By Street Sweeper He Was Using To Clean Publix Parking Lot: Troopers

Florida Highway Patrol troopers investigated a fatal crash Friday night near a Publix when a car smashed into a vacuum truck.

BRANDON, FL — A 57-year-old Thonotosassa man who operated a street sweeper Friday night in a Publix shopping center was killed when the sweeper ran over him, a Florida Highway Patrol news release said.

As the victim cleaned the parking lot in the 900 block of West Brandon Boulevard near Robertson Street, he left the parking lot driving the sweeper into the eastbound lanes of Brandon Boulevard, according to troopers.

As he made a U-turn in those lanes to return to the parking lot at about 11:23 p.m., a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette, driven by a 43-year-old Seffner man, in a center lane of Brandon Boulevard slammed into the side of the sweeper, the patrol said.
