O'Brien's 'Bloomsday Tampa Bay' Pays Tribute to Joyce's 'Ulysses'
Tonight's literary event at O'Brien's Irish Pub and Family Restaurant focuses on James Joyce and his novel, "Ulysses." The "Bloomsday 2012" event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. tonight, June 16, with a limerick contest and arts show included.

O'Brien's focuses on the literary with tonight's "Bloomsday 2012" event, featuring "an evening of literature, music and fun, celebrating James Joyce and his remarkable novel, 'Ulysses.' "
" 'Bloomsday,' named after 'Ulysses' central character, Leopold Bloom, marks the day on which the action of the novel takes place, June 16, and follows the life and thoughts of Bloom and a host of other colorful characters, both real and fictional, as they travel through the streets of Dublin and the corners of their minds."

That's according to the O'Brien's Irish Pub and Family Restaurant announcement for the event, which notes as well that attendees will "celebrate Joyce and all things Irish with a lovely supper and grand old pint, traditinal Irish music, the 2012 Bloomsday Limerick Championship [with a prize of $250] and more."
More than 25 pieces of work will be on display, and available for purchase, featuring the talents of Brandon amateur artists.

The event is from 6 to 10 p.m. Cost is "free to come in" and $20 "for a buffet and a couple of drinks," according to an O'Brien's employee.
O'Brien's is at 701 West Lumsden Road in Brandon, at the southwest corner of Lumsden Road and Kings Avenue.
