Powerhouse Football (Sept. 7) at Armwood High, Hawks Face Stallions
Game time Sept. 7 is 7:30 p.m. for the Armwood Hawks and the American Heritage (Plantation) Stallions at the Lyle Flagg Field in Seffner. The game between former state football champions is being billed as a game of the week. Brandon has a bye.

The Armwood Hawks, following last week's 55-0 win against crosstown rivals the Brandon High Eagles, take to the field tonight in Seffner against American Heritage of Plantation. The Eagles have no game this week.
The Armwood game against the American Heritage Stallions is being billed as the CSS High School Football Game of the Week and as a battle between two state champions.

After Armwood's win against Brandon, the Hawks are No. 1 in the MaxPreps Florida 6A rankings, No. 5 in the overall Florida rankings and No. 25 in the nation, according to CSS-Sports.com. In its season opener, American Heritage shut out Atlantic 29-0; the team ranks No. 1 in the MaxPreps Florida 3A rankings, No. 4 in the overall Florida rankings and No. 20 in the nation.
The Sept. 7 contest at the Lyle Flagg Field in Seffner kicks off at 7:30 p.m. with the Hawks coming off two wins, having amassed 90 points without giving up one. In addition to the 55-0 win over the Eagles in Seffner, the Hawks scored a two-quarter, 35-0 preseason victory against Gibbs on Aug. 31.

That game was held to two quarters because caused two games to be played at the Lyle Flagg Field in one night. In the first game that night, Tampa Bay Tech defeated Jefferson (27-7).

Armwood is the Greater Brandon area's perennial powerhouse — but not immune to following the rules. The Florida High School Athletic Association in June held the program accountable for using ineligible players and then stripped the team of its 2011 Class 6A state championship. The Hawks' 2010 state runner-up status was negated as well.
According to a Forbes sports & leisure report, the school had to "send back the trophies associated with those appearances" and the FHSAA "also fine the school $12,743, and made it forfeit 26 wins."
Armwood has officially won two state titles, in 2003 and 2004. American Heritage is Florida's defending 3A state champion and has won two other state titles as well, in 2007 and 2009.
The Brandon Eagles return to the field Sept. 14, at home, with a 7:30 p.m. contest against Freedom High. The team scored a at the home field of the Blake High School Yellow Jackets on Aug. 24.
This year marks the , who came to the Eagles from Hillsborough High School, where for 16 years he was an assistant coach to Earl Garcia.
