Seffner Confederate Memorial Park Vandalized
Hillsborough deputies are trying to find the person or people responsible for vandalizing a Confederate memorial in Seffner.

SEFFNER, FL — In the wake of the deadly violence that erupted at a white nationalist protest in Charlottesville, Virginia, someone vandalized Seffner’s Confederate Memorial Park. Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies are now asking for help identifying the person or people responsible.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to the 10418 U.S. 92 park around 11 a.m. Aug. 13. A passerby spotted graffiti on the memorial and reported it.

The sheriff’s office said red paint was thrown “on all the memorial columns and drops of paint” were found on the cement ground throughout the memorial. “Derogatory comments” were also written in paint on the memorial. The sheriff’s office has not elaborated on the nature of the comments.

The case is being investigated as criminal mischief, according to the sheriff’s office.
The vandalism was reported one day after the “Unite the Right” rally in Virginia took a violet turn, ultimately leaving three people dead. That rally was staged by white nationalists to protest the removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the graffiti on the Seffner memorial to call 813-247-8200. Tips may also be called into Crime Stoppers at 800-873-TIPS.
