Sheriff's Office Seeks Help Identifying Man Found Dead in the Woods

The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office needs help identifying the body of a man believed to have been transient, or homeless living in the woods. His death was ruled from natural causes.

In a wooded area, some 15 feet from the road, a man believed to be transient or homeless was found dead Feb. 7 in the Greater Brandon area and the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office is asking for help in identifying the victim.

His body was found by a witness walking down the road. 

According to a report from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, here’s what is known:

  • The victim is a white male, age 45 to 55, 5-foot-8, 151 pounds, thick build. He had wavy black hair; brown eyes; a long, bushy, black- and-grey beard; and a cyst on his forehead about 1-inch in diameter. He was wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt with a skull design on the front, blue jeans and brown work boots.
  • The man’s body was found shortly before 9 a.m., by a witness walking on the sidewalk.
  • He was found in a wooded area, about 15 feet from the edge of the northbound sidewalk of Falkenburg Road, north of  Highland Manor Drive.
  • There were no apparent signs of foul play; the death was ruled natural by the Medical Examiner's Office.

What isn’t known, though, is the man’s name.

 As the report noted: “He may have possibly been a transient or homeless person who was living in close proximity to the area where he was found."
