Stolen ATM Machine Proves Hard Nut To Crack for Frustrated Thieves

A stolen Bank of America ATM machine yields no cash for frustrated thieves, found at a Seffner residence with the machine they stole using a stolen Caterpillar front-end loader and a General Motors dump truck, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The two vehicles, registered to Better Roads Inc. were stolen from unknown locations in Hillsborough County at around 5 a.m. July 8, according to the sheriff's report. They reportedly were put into action about 11 minutes later at the Bank of America in Seffner, at 816 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

There, the Caterpillar was used to remove the ATM machine, which had cash and deposits inside, according to the report. The stolen ATM was put into the bed of the stolen GM truck. The caterpillar was abandoned north of Taylor Road and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Deputies said the ATM machine was taken to 7709 Williams Road in Seffner, where the thieves attempted to hide and conceal it. The dump truck was abandoned west of Sligh Avenue and Williams Road.

The men "returned to the ATM and made numerous attempts to remove the money from the machine, which were met with negative results," according to the sheriff's report.

In other words, great pains were taken for no gains in cash for suspects Robert Leon Suggs, 36, and David Eugene Hall, 28, who instead face stiff charges stemming from the ill-fated July 8 heist, according to the report.

Deputies were tipped off about the location of the stolen ATM machine and upopn arriving at the William Road location, later in the afternoon July 8, found the defendants "still attempting to break into the machine."

Again, no cash was gained but approximately $1,000 in damages resulted, the report notes.

Suggs, of 5316 Orange Ave. in Seffner, will be answering to charges of burglary of an unoccupied structure, two counts of grand theft motor vehicle, grand theft and criminal mischief.

Hall, of 5016 Habersham Lane in Tampa, faces the same charges.
