Woman Killed Helping Turtle Cross The Road: Report

A Brandon man is accused of driving on a suspended license and hitting the woman with a truck.

ORANGE COUNTY, FL — A woman died Tuesday afternoon on Curry Road in Orlando as she helped a turtle cross the road.

Brandon resident, Miguel Valero Gonzalez, 30, is accused by troopers of hitting Virginia Olivo, 57, with a box truck and then driving away, according to a WESH report.

Olivio stood in a travel lane behind her Chevy Equinox, which had its emergency blinkers on, as she tried to help the turtle, according to WESH. ShThe box truck smashed her into the back of her vehicle. Troopers said she was killed instantly.

Another motorist, who saw the deadly crash, called police, the TV outlet said.

Gonzalez was arrested on charges of leaving the scene of a crash and driving on a suspended license.
