Unused, Unwanted Prescription Drug Collection Set for Sept. 29

Another opportunity to discard dated and unwanted drugs that could be used illicitly is coming to the Greater Brandon area this week. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office on Sept. 29 is joining forces with other agencies to help rid the Tampa Bay area of unused prescription drugs.

As part of an ongoing effort to crack down on illegal pill mills and to prevent prescription drug abuse, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) is taking part in the cleanup, with one of four collection sites hosted in Valrico (see chart below).

The Operation Medicine Cabinet Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is part of an ongoing effort to crack down on illegal pill mills and prevent prescription drug abuse. Joining forces with the sheriff's office toward that end are the Tampa Police Department (TPD), the Temple Terrace Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance.

The aim is to collect unused or expired prescription medications from citizens to prevent potentially dangerous drugs from getting into the wrong hands.

Unused prescription drugs will be collected Sept. 29 at four locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Citizens can drop off prescription anonymously, with no questions asked, at any of the four locations.

In support of the initiative is the Hillsborough County Anti-Drug Alliance, which will provide volunteers and educational materials at the collection sites.
