Valrico Man, 33, Critically Injured In I-75 Crash

A 33-year-old Valrico man was critically injured in a Sunday morning crash in Manatee County.

VALRICO, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a single-vehicle crash that left a 33-year-old man from Valrico critically injured.

According to the patrol, Robert Garrett Waldon was heading south on Interstate 75 around 1:50 a.m. May 21. As Waldon approached University Parkway, troopers say he lost control of his Dodge Ram and crossed from the inside lane into the center and outside lanes.

Waldon’s truck ran off the road, onto the shoulder and then struck a tree west of I-75, a highway patrol report said.

Waldon suffered critical injuries in the crash. The incident remains under investigation with charges pending its outcome.

Authorities are not releasing further information at this time, but the report noted alcohol was a suspected factor.
