Leto High School Arts Building Damaged By Fire; School Still On

A Hillsborough County Public School spokesperson said classes at Leto High School will resume Wednesday as scheduled.

TAMPA, FL — There were no injuries but the arts building at Leto High School sustained damage when a fire broke out at the school Tuesday night.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to the fire at A. P. Leto High School, 4409 W Sligh Ave., Tampa, at 7:03 p.m. Upon arriving, crews found smoke billowing from the roof of the arts building.

Firefighters quickly identified the source of the smoke and extinguished the flames but then spent hours breaking apart areas of the roof that were still smoldering to ensure the fire was completely out.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but there was planned construction on the roof where the fire originated.

The arts building sustained fire, smoke and water damage, but the remainder of the school was not affected.

In all, 14 Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to the scene.

On Monday, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a two-alarm fire at Stone Creek Pointe condominiums, 13275 Arbor Pointe Circle, Tampa.

Eight units sustained significant damage. After dousing the blaze, firefighters remained at the scene to retrieve medications and personal items for residents.
