Pot Left On Hot Stove Ruled Cause Of Kitchen Fire At Avila Home

A fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen of a home on Villareal De Avila in the neighborhood of Avila Saturday night.

CARROLLWOOD, FL — A fire caused extensive damage to the kitchen of a home on Villareal De Avila in the neighborhood of Avila Saturday night.

According to a report from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, firefighters were called to the home by a resident at 10:38 p.m. who reported coming home and finding the house full of smoke.

Engine 5 was the first unit on the scene and reported light smoke showing near the front door and garage. However, upon entering, firefighters said there was a fire in the kitchen. While firefighters with Engine 5 stretched a hose line through the front door to battle the blaze in the kitchen, additional fire units arrived and established a water supply from a nearby fire hydrant to fight the fire.

There was significant damage to the kitchen, but firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading to the rest of the home.

There were no injuries.

Investigators determined the cause of the blaze to be a pot left on the hot stove while the owner was away.
