CARROLLWOOD, FL — A Florida state trooper walked away from a totaled patrol car with only minor injuries following a New Year's Day crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, on Sunday at 11:10 a.m., a marked highway patrol car initiated a traffic stop of a sports utility vehicle driven by a 61-year-old Land O' Lakes man for speeding.

Both vehicles began pulling over to the shoulder of the highway but the highway patrol said the trooper's patrol car was going too fast for the wet roadway conditions and lost control and collided with the SUV. The impact caused the patrol car to strike a third car driven by a 52-year-old New Port Richey man.
