Man Charged With Attempted Murder In FL Road-Rage Shooting

A Clearwater man was charged with attempted murder in a road-rage shooting, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.

CLEARWATER, FL — A Clearwater man was charged with first-degree attempted murder after a road-rage shooting last month, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.

Derrius Laskett, 24, of St. Petersburg was brought to a hospital with two gunshot wounds on June 5, just after 8 p.m.

He told Clearwater police that he was shot near the intersection of Auburn Street Northwest and Carnegie Avenue. PCSO detectives took over the investigation because the area is in the sheriff’s office jurisdiction.

Investigators learned that Laskett and 24-year-old Jamarl Spence were involved in a road-rage incident.

Immediately after the incident, Laskett, who was a passenger, got out of the vehicle he was in while they exchanged words. Spence took out a gun and fired several shots at Laskett, hitting him twice, the sheriff’s office said.

Laskett was treated for his injuries and later released from the hospital.

He was arrested and booked into the Pinellas Jail.
