Clearwater Offers 150 Free Compost Bins To Residents Who Take Course
Residents who take the virtual composting course can qualify to receive a free composting bin.

CLEARWATER, FL — Clearwater residents may receive a free compost bin after completing the free online "Clearwater Creates Compost" course by Thursday, Nov. 16.
The city of Clearwater Solid Waste and Recycling Center will give out 150 free bins during the Clearwater Creates Compost Bin giveaway Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon.
The initiative is intended to increase awareness about backyard composting, to reduce waste and to decrease the city's carbon emissions as part of the city's sustainability plan, Greenprint 2.0, to continue the virtual Clearwater Creates Compost course and complete an annual compost bin giveaway day.

The program is open to the first 150 Clearwater residents (with proof of residency) who have completed the online Clearwater Creates Compost course. The deadline to complete the course is Nov. 16. The compost bins will be available for pickup Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Clearwater Solid Waste and Recycling Center, at 1701 N. Hercules Ave.
It is estimated that nearly a quarter of all landfill content is food waste, higher than any other single material. When organic matter decomposes in a landfill, it emits methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.

Composting food scraps diverts them from the landfill, reducing the city's gas emissions, contributing to cleaner air.
