I-4 Shooting Victim Used to Live in Clearwater

Fred William Turner, 47, was apparently shot and killed on Interstate 4 by someone who followed him Saturday.

Hear about that fatal shooting that shut down Interstate 4 over the weekend?

Turns out the victim is a former Clearwater resident, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Fred William Turner Jr., 47, lived part-time in Orlando and Illinois but used to reside in Clearwater with his wife before they got divorced, according to the Times.

Turner was shot and killed on the interstate, which snarled traffic for hours Saturday as authorities searched for evidence along the road.

Turner had called 911 to report that someone had been following him from the area of 50th Street North and East Columbus Drive in Tampa after he left a store and got onto I-4.

He then told dispatchers someone pulled up next to him in a gray Taurus and displayed what appeared to be a semi-automatic weapon, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. Turner said he had done nothing to cause someone to follow him.

Dispatchers then heard multiple gunshots as Turner reached the Interstate 75 overpass, where he had pulled over, authorities said.
