Is It Art? Whatever It Is, It Is Gone

The PVC structure that appeared on north Clearwater Beach a couple weeks ago is gone. But what was it?

The PVC structure that appeared on north Clearwater Beach is gone.

The pyramid-like pieces of piping could have been a fish attraction device that floated ashore, said Jason Descant, in a post on the Clearwater Patch Facebook page.

City officials are not sure what it was although some suggested it could be a paddleboard or surfboard stand. They also did not know who might have placed it or removed it from the beach.

"I have not seen it and I do not know what it is," JP Atherholt, Clearwater Beach recreation supervisor, said in an email.

Clearwater Patch readers also shared their ideas for what the structure might have been.

"I saw something the other day like this. It makes different noises depending on which way the wind is blowing," Amanda Smith said on the Clearwater Patch Facebook page. "At least that is what I think they are intending to do!"

Maybe it was some larger-than-life game board.

"Major League Jinga ??" Michael H. commented.
