Mother Dog, Puppies Recuperating After House Fire

A mother dog and its four puppies are doing well after surviving a Clearwater housefire Wednesday morning.

Clearwater Fire and Rescue discovered two adult dogs and five nearly six-month old puppies as they searched a smoke-filled duplex at 517 Saturn Ave. at 7:11 a.m.

Jasmine, the adult female dog, was unconsious, having trouble breathing and very close to death when firefighters started working to resuscitate her with the use of a pet oxygen mask.

The puppies, Bo, Jada, Mareel and Shaka, have minor burn injuries and smoke inhalation but did not require treatment at the scene. They all were taken to the SPCA for veterinary care were they are doing well.

Rescuers tried but were unable to save a puppy that died from smoke inhalation.

Jaheen, the adult male dog, appeared unharmed and was taken to Animal Services.
