Find out what city leaders are talking about, where the cheapest gas is and which roads are closed this week in Clearwater.

Pier 60 Walkup Fee Could Increase, Crest Lake Park Plan
Clearwater City Council meets this week. Leaders will discuss raising the fee to walk on the extended portion of Pier 60 from .50 cents to $1 and the future of Crest Lake Park at their work session meeting at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at City Hall, 112 S. Osceola Ave. Check here for the complete agenda.

Cheap Gas
Start the week off right with a tank of the cheapest gas around. Get a gallon of regular unleaded for $3.39 at Rally, 3400 Ulmerton Road; 7-Eleven, 5860 Roosevelt Blvd; and Shell, 1501 Gulf to Bay Blvd, according to tampagasprices.com.

Road Work

Drivers should expect to use caution and budget more time on their commute near Drew Street and U.S. 19. The eastbound curb lane of Drew Street near U.S. 19 is closed intermittently to traffic for one week starting Monday, Aug. 12. The lane closure is part of construction for a raw water transmission project related to the Reverse-Osmosis Water Treatment Plant No. 2.

Hurricane Predictions Trimmed, But Not By Much

The National Hurricane Center issued a revised outlook report for the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season. While forecasters anticipate a slightly less active season than thought earlier in the year, they still say there’s a 70 percent chance for an “above-normal season” when it comes to activity levels.

As it stands now, the government’s forecasting agency anticipates we’ll see 13 to 19 named storms; 6 to 9 hurricanes and 3 to 5 major hurricanes. This only a few less storms than predicted back in May of this year.

Remember, folks, hurricane season continues until Nov. 30, so we still have a long way to go.
