Pinellas To Give Away Free Fresh Produce To People In Need

The Farm Share event is run in conjunction with several organizations in Pinellas County.

CLEARWATER, FL – For people who need a hand with providing food for their families, food banks around Pinellas County can help with basic, non-perishable items. However, it’s a rare treat to be able to provide a healthy treat, such as fresh fruits and vegetables.

In an effort to help promote the welfare of its residents, the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners and local partner agencies will host a free produce giveaway on Friday, March 31. The event will take place at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 1012 Pennsylvania Ave. in Clearwater.

Free produce will be available starting at 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. or while supplies last. The event is open to anyone who needs extra help with some of their grocery needs.

The event will be hosted by Farm Share, an organization that uses inmate labor and volunteer to resort and package surplus food and distribute it to individuals, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, churches and other organizations that feed the hungry. The Florida-based organization receives surplus produce from farmers and distributes more than 15 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to participating communities each year.

Other agencies participating in the March 31 event include the Clearwater Neighborhood Housing Services, Florida Blue, Tampa Bay Healthcare Collaborative and the Florida Dream Center’s Adopt-A-Block program.
