Pinellas Marks STD Awareness Month With Campaign

The county is encouraging its residents to "get tested, get treated" during the month of April.

CLEARWATER, FL – While it may be an uncomfortable conversation, Pinellas County is talking to its residents about the dangers of sexually transmitted diseases.

According to the Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County, April is National STD Awareness Month. During the month, the department promotes education, testing and treatment about sexually transmitted diseases that are treatable, such as syphilis, chlamydia and gonorrhea.

As of Tuesday, Feb. 28, 732 cases of chlamydia have been reported year-to-date in Pinellas County. DOH-Pinellas provides confidential testing and treatment at STD clinics in its centers across the entire county.

The DOH-Pinellas centers that have STD clinics that provide testing and treatment are:

  • Clearwater: 310 N. Myrtle Ave., (727) 469-5800
  • Mid-County: 8751 Ulmerton Road, Largo, (727) 524-4410
  • Tarpon Springs: 301 S. Disston Ave., (727) 942-5457

People who are tested can choose to be notified via text message if their results are of concern.
