Tampa Bay Schools Make Schedule Changes As Strong Storms Hit FL
With severe thunderstorms, heavy rain, isolated tornadoes expected across FL Tuesday, schools have closed and events have been canceled.
FLORIDA — With severe thunderstorms bringing heavy rains and strong winds, as well as the potential for isolated tornadoes and flooding, to Florida, some schools in the Tampa Bay area have closed or canceled after-school events.
Some venues and businesses have also canceled evening events.

Citrus County

- Citrus County Schools: The school district will be on a half-day schedule Tuesday with elementary schools releasing at 12:35 p.m., middle schools releasing at 11:20 a.m. and high schools getting out at 11:40 a.m. All after-school programs and extracurricular activities are canceled. YMCA programs will operate until 6 p.m. at all elementary schools.
Hernando County
- Hernando County Schools: All schools will close three hours early Tuesday. After school providers, the Boys and Girls Club and the YMCA, will remain open. Tuesday’s school board workshop and regular meeting are canceled.
- Pasco-Hernando State College: All campuses are closed Tuesday.

- Pasco County Schools: Schools are closed and all after-school activities and events are canceled Tuesday.
- Pasco-Hernando State College: All campuses are closed Tuesday.
Pinellas County
- A CEO Conversation: From Entry Level to Executive: This event featuring St. Petersburg College president Dr. Tonjua Williams and president of Duke Energy Florida Melissa Seixas has been postponed and will be rescheduled.
- Creative Pinellas: The Fresh Ink event scheduled Tuesday night at Creative Pinellas in Largo in partnership with American Stage is canceled.
- Gulfport Casino: The Tuesday ballroom and tango dance classes are canceled.
- Gulfport Tuesday Fresh Market: This weekly market along Beach Boulevard in Gulfport is canceled.
- Gulfport Recreation Center: All Tuesday evening activities are canceled.
- Wordier Than Thou Open Mic: This monthly open mic at the Studio@620 in St. Petersburg is canceled.
Polk County
- Polk County Schools: All after-school activities and sports are canceled Tuesday.
Sarasota County
- Humphris Park at the South Jetty, 2000 Tarpon Center Drive, in Venice: Closed Tuesday around 4 p.m. due to increased wind and surf.
- Sarasota County Schools: All outdoor after-school activities are canceled Tuesday.
