Woman, 79, Injured In Clearwater Fire

A Thursday morning fire in unincorporated Clearwater sent a 79-year-old woman to the hospital.

CLEARWATER, FL — The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Thursday morning blaze in unincorporated Clearwater that sent a 79-year-old woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

According to the agency, its deputies and Dunedin Fire Rescue responded to a call about a residential fire in the 2100 block of Pine Ridge Drive around 7 a.m. When they arrived, they found smoke billowing out of the home.

Fire rescue personnel were able to make entry to the home and found a smoldering blaze in the kitchen, an email from the sheriff's office said. Crews were able to extinguish the flames quickly.

When the home was searched, firefighters found Dimitra Dimopoulos unresponsive, the email said. Deputies say Dimopoulos appears to have suffered life-threatening injuries. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities do not believe it is suspicious in nature, the email added.
