27-Month-Old Found Wandering Alone in Pajamas Returned Safely Home

Family tells deputies the girl unlocked the throw bolt on the front door of their home.

A 27-month-old girl was found wandering alone in pink pajamas near Beltrees Street and Marjon Avenue Sunday morning, Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies say.

She was found by a Dunedin resident and returned safely to the custody of her parents after they called deputies about two and a half hours later to report their daughter missing from their home on 3rd Avenue.

Betty Yaggy, of 296 Skyloch Drive West, was out for a walk when she discovered the toddler wandering without shoes and contacted deputies around 9 a.m. Deputies knocked on doors looking for the girl’s parents but were unable to find anyone who recognized her. She was taken into the custody of the Sheriff's Child Protection Investigations Division.

At 11:25 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a call from the girl’s parents saying they awoke Sunday to found their daughter gone. The family told deputies the girl had been able to climb up to the throw bolt installed on the inside of the front door of their home. It had been put there to stop this from happening, they said.

The Sheriff’s deputies do not believe the incident to be suspicious, but they are continuing to investigate the situation.
