Body on Dunedin Causeway Believed a Suicide

A preliminary investigation reveals that the body found along the Dunedin Causeway on Friday morning appears to have been the result of a suicide, deputies report.

A near  appeared to be that of a man in his early to mid 40s who committed suicide, authorities said.

The man's name has not been released. 

Pinellas County Sheriff's spokeswoman Cecilia Barreda said the preliminary investigation suggests the man hanged himself from the railing, but results have not yet been confirmed by the medical examiner.

Pinellas County Sheriff's deputies were called to investigate a body on the bridge just before , a 55-and-older condominium community. 

The location is a popular fishing spot.

Traffic was blocked in the westbound lane of the causeway and pedestrian traffic on the Pinellas Trail extension was also diverted during the investigation.
