Dunedin Is Made In Shade After Being Named Tree City USA For 34th Year
Attendees at the city's tree giveaway received their choice of two 3-gallon, native, drought-tolerant trees.

DUNEDIN, FL — This year marks the 34th year Dunedin has been designated a Tree City USA. City arborist Craig Wilson accepted the honor on behalf of the city.
And Dunedin residents celebrated April 15 by picking up more trees to plant in their yards during the city's annual tree giveaways at Achieva Credit Union Corporate Headquarters.
Attendees received their choice of two 3-gallon, native, drought-tolerant trees including:

- Bald Cypress
- Black Tupelo
- Common Persimmon
- Crape Myrtle (Muskogee)
- Dahoon Holly
- Fringetree
- Magnolia
- Red Cedar
- Red Maple
- Southern Live Oak
- Southern Slash Pine
- Walter's Viburnum
Started in 1976, Tree City USA is one of the Arbor Day Foundation’s oldest programs started to inspire a greener, healthier America.
The first Tree City USA recipients included 42 communities in 16 states. Today, the program includes more than 3,600 communities from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico.

In addition to making Dunedin shadier, the city is searching for the Dunedin Environmental Hero. Residents are invited to nominate a student, teacher, group, organization, business or community member who goes above and beyond for the planet through Sunday, April 30.
