The friendly competition between libraries is for children’s new, unopened packages of underwear and socks. Phyllis Gorshe, Dunedin library director, said Monday morning that 83 packages have been collected so far.
All donations go to Clothes to Kids charity, which provides quality used and new clothing at no cost to low-income, school-age children in Pinellas County.

The competition with Palm Harbor ends Friday (Oct. 7), but donations will be accepted at the library's Youth Services desk through Oct. 26.
The Clearwater-based charity, which started in Dunedin, says it gives out about 1,500 pairs of new underwear each week because every child that shops at the stores receives five pairs of underwear with their wardrobe.
Clothes to Kids says that the most-needed items and sizes are:
Girls: Size 4 to 16
Juniors: Size 5 and up (especially bikinis)
Boys: Size 4 to 16 (both briefs and boxers)
Young Men: Size 30 to 32 and up (especially boxers)
