Robotics Team Earns Spot in Regional Competition

Students at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School are proving they may be well on their way to becoming engineers.

The Robotics Team recently took first place in the junior division in the RoboFest 2012 Qualifying Robotics Competition, where they went up against 19 teams from all over Pinellas County in categories including game, exhibition and fashion, and dance.

Our Lady of Lourdes students are preparing a video for the Video Regional Competition on April 7, and if they fare well, could move into the World Championships at Lawrence Technical University in Michigan on April 14.

RoboFest is an annual autonomous robotic competition designed to promote science, math, engineering and technology to students in grades 5 to 12.

Our Lady of Lourdes students said they were inspired by Pac-Man, and built a robot that operated from a programmed board, without the use of controllers, according to the Our Lady of Lourdes School website.

The robotics team meets weekly and spent a year preparing.
