Strong Winds Pester Termite Treatment

A gas fumigant was released when a portion of the tent was blown away.

Strong winds caused a toxic gas to be released from a building undergoing termite treatment Thursday afternoon, fire officials report.

Dunedin fire personnel responded to a call at 4:49 p.m. that a portion of a tent used for fumigating the waterside clubhouse at , 622 Edgewater Dr, blew off and into St. Joseph Sound.

As a result, Vikane gas fumigant, a common termite treatment, was released from the building, fire officials report.

Bay Area Termite and Pest Control technicians returned to ensure that the gas treatment had fully cleared the building.

No injuries were reported.

The Dunedin Fire Prevention Bureau, Dunedin Fire Department and Clearwater Fire Department responded.
