Pavilions Among Weaver Park Improvements

Two pavilions and a trail are going in at J.C. Weaver Park over the next month and a half, park officials say.

Pardon the dust at . The Pinellas Trail-side of Dunedin’s waterside jewel is getting some upgrades.

Park officials said during this phase of construction, crews are constructing two pavilions and a paved trail. It will “tie together” the pavilions, future bathrooms and the parking areas from the cottage to the northeast lot, Vince Gizzi, parks and recreation director, said.

The pavilions and trail should be finished within the next 30 to 45 days, he said.

The area, when finished, will be a more inviting trailhead to Pinellas Trail, Gizzi said.

Weaver Park is in year No. 3 of a five-year project, estimated at $400,000. Of the $400,000, the city will be reimbursed $200,000 through a matching grant.

Virginian , the park’s namesake, sold the 8-acre site to the city for public use in 2008. It opened in December 2010.

The next phase of upgrades has not been scheduled or approved yet. The upcoming additions include a floating dock and additional bathroom facilities, Gizzi said.
