Bird Migration Chirping Along in East Lake

The recent influx of winged neighbors is no accident, according to the East Lake preserve, Brooker Creek.

According to experts at Brooker Creek Nature Preserve, bird migration takes place each spring here in East Lake.

This year is no different with an innumerable amount of feathered friends making their way into the area. 

The birds have a sort of self timer that lets them know when it's time to migrate from South America, where they spend the winter months, north to the west coast of Florida.

According to Brooker Creek, the journey is more than 1,000 miles and the birds receive no break during their travels. 

Experts say the birds stock up on body fat, which is actually what keeps them going throughout the trek.

It is possible that nature lovers will see a few remaining species passing through. 

Most of the birds make their way to their final destination here in East Lake or have passed through by the end of April or at the beginning of May. 

Brooker Creek experts say that if folks missed out this year, they need not worry considering the cycle happens annually.
