East Lake Catcher Putting Baseball Career on Hold for Church Mission

High school baseball star Grant Hodges will go on a two-year church mission.

Star East Lake High School catcher Grant Hodges has decided to take the next step in his career. No, it's not to enter the Major League Baseball draft or to accept a baseball scholarship — It is to go on a two-year church mission, according to TBO.com.

"God gave his life for me," Hodges told TBO. "If he gave that for me, I can give him two years of my own life to serve him. I want to play baseball and I am definitely going to go to college, but I believe that my real talent is not baseball but it is to teach the gospel."

Hodges, who is a senior, told TBO he does no know where his church will send him, but he said he'd be prepared.
