East Lake's Parks a Fun Destination for Many

Think East Lake is just for locals? People who live outside East Lake make the trek here for our great parks and outdoor activities.

East Lake is known for being a great place to raise a family. But, here's something you might not know, people who live outside of East Lake find it a fun destination.

We ran into a family at John Chesnut Sr. Park who drove all the way to the park from Lutz. Herb and Gerri Hoover have been visiting the park for more than 10 years.

During their most recent visit last week, they brought their daughter Terry Hoover, who'd never been there. "I've already made plans to come back," she said while sitting beside her parents on a swing that looked out to a small lake at the park.

The family brought lunch and ate it at one of the park's many picnic tables.

Herb and Gerri recalled a previous visit to the same lake where they saw an alligator scare a man who was fishing. The man was so frightened he abandoned his fishing pole and ran away. However, there were no alligator sightings during their most recent visit.

Last week, we also ran into a couple women who live in Palm Harbor but visit East Lake almost every day to ride their horses, which they board at a farm off Keystone Road. One of their favorite places to ride is Brooker Creek Preserve, which also attracts visitors from outside East Lake.
