Herpetology Camp To Educate East Lake Youth

Brooker Creek Preserve is offering a weeklong summer camp that will combine education and fun.

From July 29- August 2, Brooker Creek's Herpetology Camp will be in full swing at the preserve.

Sponsored by Heinrich Ecological Services, the educational camp will run daily from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. for kids age 7-11.

Activities include hands-on encounters with gopher tortoises, snakes, lizards, and frogs. Amphibians and reptiles will be the focus of the Herpetology Camp.

According to Brooker Creek, the experience is "science based, hands on."

Campers will learn from professional herpetologist, George Heinrich. Focal points of teaching will be the ecology of a number of species as well as the importance of conservation and how it can be incorporated into daily life.

The camp is $150 for the week and limited space is available. The first 30 campers to sign up will make the cut.
