Palm Harbor Doctor Credited With QB's 'Groundbreaking' Concussion Treatments

Former Cleveland Browns quarterback Bernie Kosar says Dr. Rick Sponaugle's treatments have helped him find relief from they symptoms of brain trauma that have haunted him for a decade.

A former NFL quarterback who has been tormented by the aftereffects of concussions for a decade since his playing days is now crediting a Palm Harbor doctor with helping him find relief.

Bernie Kosar, who starred for the Cleveland Browns during his 13-year pro career, credits the "groundbreaking" work of Dr. Rick Sponaugle, who has been treating the QB for about a month, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

"It was a gift from God to find this and to feel like this," Kosar said during a news conference Thursday in Ohio. "I see all the symptoms going away."

Sponaugle, 57, who operates the Florida Detox & Wellness Institute, at 32815 U.S. 19 N., says the therapy improves blood flow in the brain through intravenous treatments and dietary supplements. He has been in touch with the NFL, and he and Kosar say they hope to help other former players with brain trauma issues, the Plain Dealer reports.
