YMCA Urges Seniors to Age Healthy

East Lake's YMCA is offering a residents ages 50-64 a free program that focuses on fitness and health.

YMCA of the Suncoast, which includes the East Lake location, is a launching an initiative dedicated to individuals between the ages of 50-64 that will focus on prevention, health and fitness. 

Appropriately titled 50 Moving Forward, the program seeks to provide fresh ideas that will produce healthy aging.

According to a Mandy Griffith of the YMCA, experts have defined a number of elements that are crucial to a healthy coming of age:

  • Physical activity
  • Screenings
  • Vaccinations
  • Healthy eating
  • Social interaction

50 Moving Forward will include the elements as well as some creative ways to implement them. 

With a growing population of senior citizens across the U.S., the YMCA's reasoning behind the complimentary program is simple: address the health and well-being of those individuals.

The YMCA of the Suncoast is one of just 25 locations across the country implementing the initiative. 

Activities will include pickle ball, walking clubs and wellness classes.
