5 Things to Know in Gulfport: Banned Books Event, Bogie Baseball, Yard Sale
It's "Banned Books Week" and everyone is invited to a free event tonight at the Gulfport Public Library. That and much more in "5 Things to Know Today."

Free Banned Books Event: Come out tonight at 7 p.m. at the Catherine Hickman Theater for a free event called "Celebrating the Freedom to Read!" Banned Books Week is held annually during the last week of Sept. (Sept. 30-Oct. 6, 2012). The week is an occasion for libraries and bookstores across the U.S. to help folks realize just how real and ongoing a problem censorship is. Tonight's event is sponsored by the Circle of Friends of the Gulfport Library. For more information contact Angela Herritt 727-290-6590. Support Bogie Baseball: There's still time to sponsor a hole or sign up for the Bogie Baseball Golf Outing at the Isla Del Sol Yacht and County Club on Saturday, Oct. 20th. The funraising event will benefit Boca Ciega High School Baseball. Organizers are asking for $100 sponsorships for hole signs and tickets to enter are $80 per person. For more information call (727) 347-6371. One more thing! There is a $10,000 hole in one contest!
City-Wide Yard Sale: The next Permit-Free City-Wide Yard sale is on Saturday, Nov. 3. The registration form is available on the City of Gulfport's website. If you want your yard sale to make it in the map brochure, fill out the attached form and turn it into the Gulfport Public Library or Gulfport City Hall by Friday, Oct. 26. You can also get your address in the flyer by emailing it to Gail Biron at gbiron@mygulfport.us by Oct. 26.

Oktoberfest 2012: Mark your calendars now for the annual festival at Most Holy Name in Gulfport. The event will take place on Thursday - Sunday, Oct. 11 - 14th at 5800 15th Ave S. For more information call (727) 344-2744. Check out the following dates and times:
