5 Things to Know in Gulfport: National Rebuild Day, Cancer Screening, Patch Food Drive

There are a lot of events this weekend in Gulfport! Here's what you need to know today.

Gulfport Patch at BCYC: The annual Boca Ciega Yacht Club "Fun Day" is today from 1 - 4 p.m. Come out for free hot dogs, drinks and sailboat rides. Plus, Gulfport Patch will be at the event! Stop by and say "hi" and bring a canned good item for our Patch Food Drive for Feeding America Tampa Bay!

Rebuilding in Gulfport: For the first time ever, Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay is organizing a volunteer event today in Gulfport. Volunteers are meeting at 7:30 a.m. at Zoomers Auto Body Shop at 4919 Tangerine Ave in Gulfport. Volunteers are needed to paint and landscape four homes located on 13th Ave S. and York St. Volunteers are advised to bring their own gloves and hand tools for yard work. Those interested in coming out are encouraged to register online.  Go to the Rebuilding Together Tampa Bay website and click "volunteer" under National Rebuild Day 2012 in St. Petersburg and Gulfport. Free Cancer Screenings: Gulfport resident, cancer survivor and Senior Patient Advocate of the Oral Cancer Foundation David Hastings is holding the third Free Oral Cancer Screening in Gulfport on Saturday. Come anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. New this year, organizers have added a free PSA screening. The event is at the Walgreens parking lot in Gulfport. Operation Medicine Cabinet: If you have prescription pills that are expired or unused, you can dispose of them safely on Saturday. The Gulfport Police Department is participating in the seventh annual "Operation Medicine Cabinet" in Pinellas County. Local law enforcement will be at Walgreens at 5701 Gulfport Blvd. S. from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. to collect medications. No biohazard items or needles will be accepted.

Saturday night, it'll be partly cloudy with a low around 73 and a south southeast wind between 11 and 14 mph. Sunday, it'll be mostly sunny with a high near 85 and a calm wind becoming west between 6 and 9 mph. Sunday night, it'll be partly cloudy with a low around 70 and a north wind 8 to 11 mph becoming east.
