5 Things to Know This Weekend

Patch's weekend round up of news and events.

1) Bring your sweetie to the Valentine's Dance Saturday night at the Gulfport Casino Ballroom. There will be live music by The Gulf Bay, an 18-piece big band. Tickets are $12 per person. For more information call 727-893-1070. The dance starts at 7 p.m.

2) There will be a free seminar on international adoption on Saturday Feb. 12 at the Historic Scout Hall from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Families interested in adopting a child from another country can receive information at the free seminar. Pre-registration is required. Please call 727-421-0441 or email internationaladoption@tampabay.rr.com. There will be another seminar on Thursday Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. in St. Pete Beach.

3) The Streetwise Self Protection for Women program is starting up again at the Gulfport Recreation Center. The program will be held on Tuesday evenings from 7:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. The eight week course is $40 or $7 a class. For more information contact Barbara Stark at 727-321-2098.

5) The National Weather Service in the Tampa Bay Area has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday. A Fire Weather Watch has also been issued and is in effect Sunday afternoon. Otherwise, we should expect sunny skies with a high near 61 on Saturday. A north wind between 11 and 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Tonight, it should be mostly clear with a low around 46. Expect a northeast wind between 9 and 11 mph. On Sunday, the sunshine will stick around and we should have a high near 64. Expect a north northeast wind between 8 and 11 mph. Relax Sunday night with mostly clear skies and a low around 47. A north wind between 5 and 8 mph.
