5 Things to Know Today: Fresh Market, Energy Efficiency, Get Rescued

Gulfport Fresh Market: Start the new year off fresh! The Gulfport Fresh Market is today frm 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The market features fruits, vegetables, seafood, cheese, honey, baked goods, teas, herbs and plants. Vendors also sell local arts and crafts and feature live music.

Non-Profits at the Market: Starting today, the Gulfport Merchant's Association is offering space for local nonprofit organizations at the Fresh Market. Over a dozen groups have participated so far, including dog rescue groups offering pets for adoption, groups representing the arts, environmental advocacy, and Gulfport history, as well as social service groups offering community outreach. Today, the Pinellas Energy Efficiency Project will offer energy-efficiency advice for consumers, as well as free promotional items.

Gulfport's Get Rescued Deadline: Vendor applications for Gulfport's annual event "Gulfport's Get Rescued" are due today, Janu. 24. The event is on Feb 25 and has become a Beach Blvd. tradition. Pets and their owners roam the streets to raise awareness and funds for animal rescue organizations. Nonprofit (501c3) rescue groups get afree space at the event. Sign up now.

Chowdah's Challenge Postponed: The Industrial Arts Center's first ever Chowdah Challenge has been postponed. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan 28. Organizers say it will be rescheduled. Check the Industrial Arts Center website for details: www.IndustrialArtsCenter.org.
