Presidents Day, Mentors Needed at Boca Ciega High School, High of 71 and more in "5 Things to Know Today."

Presidents Day: It's Presidents Day! Every year, we celebrate and commemorate George Washington and Abraham Lincoln on the third Monday on February. Many certainly celebrate and honor all American presidents! Here are some quick facts: George Washington was born on Feb. 22, 1732 and became our first president in 1789. Abraham Lincoln was born on Feb. 12, 1809 and became our 16th president in 1860.
Mentor a Student: Boca Ciega High School needs your help. Officials are asking volunteers to join their mentor program. You can help motivate, tutor and inspire a student. Training sessions at Boca Ciega High School are on March 16 and April 19. Donations for CASA: The Multicultural Committee at Boca Ciega High School is seeking donations of new underwear for children & teens and pajamas, gently used or new. These donations will be given to C.A.S.A to supplement their emergency needs list. Drop off donations at the high school at 924 58th St. S.

Celebrate Mardi Gras: What are you doing tomorrow? Tuesday, Feb. 21 is Fat Tuesday! And seniors at the Gulfport Senior Center are going to be rocking it out and competing for "Best Mask" at the Mardi Gras celebration from 2 - 4 p.m. at the Gulfport Senior Center. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 at the door. Have fun, be sure to smile bright - Gulfport Patch will be there to snap your photo.
