Caroling in Downtown Gulfport

For the second year a group of Gulfport residents, their families and friends will gather at the upcoming Holiday Hoopla Celebration in downtown Gulfport on Saturday, Dec. 10 to do some informal caroling up and down Beach Boulevard.

The activity is free and open to anyone who would like to participate.

The group will gather at 5 p.m. in front of the Gulfport Casino.

City employee and Gulfport resident Gail Byron will be joining the traveling group with her guitar so we have accompaniment. Song sheets with the words to some of the most favorite carols will be provided. The group will wander its way up Beach Boulevard singing along the way and stopping at places like the Peninsula Inn and the Courtyard Village to perform.  Near 6 p.m. the group will return to the stage in front of the Casino and sing the original song “Do You Know It’s Gulfport” (sung to the tune of “Do You Hear What I Hear).

The Gulfport Holiday Boat Parade will immediately follow that performance.

“We had a great time last year,” said Greg Stemm, a Gulfport resident and one of the organizers.

“You absolutely do NOT have to be a good singer to participate.  None of us was ready for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir last year, but it was a super way to share some holiday cheer with our neighbors and friends.  Plus, we act as an official welcoming party to sing to the many visitors who will be in town for the Hoopla celebration. It’s just a really cool “Gulfport thing” to do.”

Children and teens are welcome and encouraged to participate too!

Well behaved dogs on leashes may also come along.
