So49 Donates $5,000 to All Children's Hospital

The 49th Street South Business Association, also known as So49.org, has donated $5,000 to All Children's Hospital, the money culled from the organization's highly successful Tangerine Blues Fest. So49.org, consisting of independent businesses along 49th Street South in Gulfport/St. Petersburg, more than quadrupled its donation from $1,200 in 2010.

"Being able to meet our goal donation to All Children's, which is such a revered institution and serves such a major part of the community, is especially gratifying," said So49.org treasurer Rick Smith, co-owner of Media Concepts. "These are tough times for any kind of charitable activity, and we're pleased we were able to deliver."

The Tangerine Blues Fest, held outdoors on the 49th Street corridor in September, drew more than 5,000 in its fourth year, further evidence of the event's growing popularity.

Organizers are grateful to their sponsors — the City of St. Petersburg, City of Gulfport and Gulfport Chamber of Commerce — as well as the many volunteers who gave their time.

There's one bit of ceremony left. So49.org will present its $5,000 check on the Children's Miracle Network Telethon in June 2012.
